The more signatures we get, the more credibility we can gain as a political advocacy group. Getting even several thousand signatures on the petition will help us get onto other platforms and continue to spread the word of the VETO option; this will help get even more signatures and then perhaps get on a larger platform. It could lead to a snowball effect. So, please sign the petition and get others to sign it too, if you can.
We plan to put ourselves forward to advocate anywhere and anytime, hostile or friendly. Bring it on. We think we have a unique take on politics that provides a solution rather than commentary. We hope this will allow us to discuss the VETO option so people become aware of its ability to bring profound positive change.
If we can show a thirst for this type of option on the ballot, then it gives us credibility to advocate for more widely. We are also interested in forming a focus group to better understand voters’ perceptions of the VETO, once they have a clear understanding of it, and to identify strategies for garnering support for the option.
We think it’s worth engaging an expert in constitutional law to see if there is a legal case for getting a VETO on the ballot. Consent is a prerequisite for a democratic election, and not having it there handicaps the ability of voters to self-govern. It would be interesting to see if UK law has any statutes that will support our position. We also aim to conduct similar investigations in other countries. It’s an intriguing avenue, but we shouldn’t get bogged down in the courts for years and ultimately fail.
There is no way around it. We will need funds. We will set up our organisation to receive donations and be 100% transparent about how the funds will be spent. We will create a merch section for VETO-themed items and use the profits to support advocacy efforts. Other ways to raise money, like holding lotteries with supporter-donated prizes, will be investigated.
We want to provide template legislation that political parties can adopt for three types of electoral models.
It would be wonderful to spread the word about VETO; we would like to pursue the translation and adaptation of the white paper to suit other countries.
It would be good publicity and a great incentive to get more people interested in advocating for the VETO option. The first group to get a well-implemented VETO on the ballot anywhere will be eligible to receive the prize money. Not that we have these funds currently, but it could be something that achieves the end goal.
If you can help with anything please get in touch. We would love to hear from you!
