VETO

The VETO Option:
The Best Idea in the World?

It’s a simple idea that has the potential to revolutionise everything.

Voters currently fuel a political system that may work against their interests. This is because the electoral model is best described as “lead, follow, or get-out-of-the-way” and can lead to elected representatives without majority support or even elect those who don’t represent a single voter!

Adding a VETO option to ballots is a game-changing reform that will put voters in control and make sure elected representatives are focused on representing voter interests above all else!

Let’s take the politics out of politics and turn it into solution orientated governance.

Join Us! Sign the petition!

We are here to offer a solution, not commentary.

We petitioned parliament to “Include an option to VETO elections concerning all elected legislative positions”.

Every signature boosts our credibility to advocate on your behalf. Help us help you.

The government will issue an official answer after the petition has received 10,000 signatures. When it achieves 100,000 signatures, parliament will hold a debate on the matter.

NOTE: Petition approval is still pending, so there is nothing to sign yet. We will update once it’s up and running.

What is the VETO option?

Is it the best idea in the world when it comes to reforming politics? We think so.

This option will ensure that the political system works for voters. Currently, voters serve a political system that may not benefit them. We want to make voters count again, and by doing so, they can elect people focused on serving them above all else.

Adding a VETO option to ballots

Include the VETO option by the time of the next UK general election. A rerun would be required only if a majority of voters in that constituency, district or county VETO the election. There should be no limits on re-runs or original election candidates standing again.

The electoral system in place is not democratic. It is based on the “lead, follow, or get out of the way,” principle which cannot guarantee majority representation. It prevents voters from self-governance and thereby maximising the common good. The VETO enables voters to reject an election if they believe it will not provide them adequate representation. The veto restores voter sovereignty by requiring majority consent.
A democratic electoral system requires consent, and the veto provides it.
